New Cotton Genetics Discovery Boosts Yield and Quality for Farmers.
Researchers conducted an experiment with 10 types of cotton plants to study how their genes affect traits like yield. They found that most traits were influenced by the environment, with non-additive genetic factors playing a big role. Some plants were better at passing on good traits to their offspring, while others showed strong effects when combined with specific partners. For example, C-2602-WIR-6109 was great for producing more cotton, LH 1861 had lots of bolls per plant, and RS 2115 had many seeds per boll. Crosses like LH 1836 x H 1123 and PIL 8-5 x RS 2115 showed high performance for traits like plant height and seed yield.
