Infiltration measurements should be taken at field moisture capacity, and water flow can be assessed through soil core hydraulic conductivity. Good soil quality is linked to earthworm activity, and the time to reach field water-holding capacity depends on soil texture. Soil water retention can be estimated from particle size, organic matter, and bulk density data.
