New rice varieties in Guangxi to improve appearance and nutrition.
The study analyzed rice varieties from Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region to improve breeding strategies. They tested 1713 rice varieties from 2004 to 2010 and found that the milling quality was good, but some had higher levels of chalky rice and amylose content. The researchers suggest focusing on breeding new varieties with lower chalkiness and moderate amylose content in the future.
