Military Facilities Poised to Ditch Oil and Gas for Cleaner Coal Power
The article discusses using different coal technologies for military facilities. Current technology can be used now for direct coal combustion. By 1982, fluidized-bed combustion may be possible. For coal gasification, the Lurgi and Koppers-Totzek processes are promising for the near-term, while the CO/sub 2/-Acceptor process is a long-term option. Coal liquefaction processes are not economically feasible for military use. Boilers can be modified to use coal-derived gas instead of natural gas.
