Ohio Bridge Decks Show Lower Crack Densities Compared to Other States
Concrete bridge decks in Ohio are cracking, which can lead to costly maintenance and replacement. A study in District 3 measured crack densities on twelve bridges to assess the extent of cracking. Structural slab bridge decks had slightly higher crack densities than stringer supported decks, with wider cracks observed on the former. However, Ohio bridge decks overall have lower crack densities compared to other states. Bridges made with Quality Control/Quality Assurance concrete had lower crack densities than those made with other types of concrete.
