High GDP per capita linked to higher corruption levels in countries.
The article examines the relationship between a country's wealth and the level of corruption within it. By analyzing data from 48 countries, the researchers found that higher GDP per capita is linked to lower corruption levels. However, corruption can also impact a country's GDP per capita. To better understand this relationship, the researchers used a technique called instrumental variable analysis. This study sheds light on the complex factors influencing corruption and suggests that improving national institutions and reducing government interference could help combat corruption.
