Urban stormwater management is crucial for conserving water resources. Bioretention swales and basins are effective in treating runoff before it reaches water bodies. A study of these systems in temperate regions worldwide found key design steps for their efficiency, including selecting the right location, designing flow capacity, choosing the right filtering materials and vegetation, and maintaining them properly. These strategies enhance the effectiveness of bioretention swales and basins for rainwater harvesting in temperate regions.
