Offshore winds unlock hidden potential for beach-dune sediment transport.
The study looked at how sand moves on a beach in Northern Ireland when the wind blows from the sea. They found that the wind can still carry sand onto the beach, even with dunes blocking some of it. By using special instruments, they saw that the wind can create swirling patterns that move sand around. The shape of the dunes and where the wind hits them affects where the sand goes. This shows that the wind and the shape of the land work together to move sand on the beach.
