New rice hybrids offer high yield and blast resistance for farmers.
Researchers analyzed 50 hybrid rice combinations approved in Sichuan for yield and resistance to rice blast. They found one combination with high yield and resistance, seven with high yield but susceptible to rice blast, and one with resistance to rice blast. The study showed that yield was related to neck blast levels, with higher neck blast levels leading to lower yields. The findings suggest which rice varieties are best for production and how to develop hybrids with high yield and resistance to rice blast.
