Decline in Cultivated Land Threatens Zhejiang Province's Future Sustainability.
The amount of cultivated land in Zhejiang Province decreased by 208 thousand hectares from 1996 to 2006, mainly due to factors like terrain slope and social changes. Areas with flat and steep slopes saw more reduction, while gentle slopes increased. Changes in agricultural structure, construction land expansion, and ecological policies directly affected the decline in cultivated land. Strict land protection policies helped slow down the loss of cultivated land. To ensure social and economic development and protect cultivated land, better land planning and stricter policies are needed.
