Optimizing Nitrogen Application Boosts Crop Yields in Dryland Farming.
The study looked at how different levels and methods of nitrogen fertilizer application affected the yield of summer crops like maize, sorghum, and pearl millet. They found that maize responded best to 40 kg of nitrogen per hectare in 1969, while sorghum did best with 20 kg of nitrogen per hectare in both years. Pearl millet had the highest yields with 80 kg of nitrogen in 1969 and 40 kg in 1970. Applying the fertilizer by drilling it 10 cm deep in the furrow gave higher yields for sorghum and pearl millet compared to broadcasting or drilling with foliar spray. Maize yielded the most when the fertilizer was drilled or drilled with foliar spray.
