New model accurately estimates shrub fuel loads for wildfire prevention.
Shrublands in NW Spain are important for ecological processes and are prone to wildfires. Researchers developed equations to estimate aboveground biomass and fuel loads in shrub communities using stand biometric variables. The models accurately estimated total fuel load and aboveground biomass, but had challenges with live and dead fine fuel load. This study provides a valuable tool for assessing biomass in shrublands and improving fire management in similar regions.
