New guidelines revolutionize software research for more accurate results.
The article discusses how studies on Mining Software Repositories (MSR) lack a systematic approach, leading to inconsistencies in how data is selected and extracted. A systematic literature review was conducted to address this issue. The review found that many MSR studies do not follow a structured process for selecting repositories or reporting data extraction methods. This lack of consistency poses a threat to the validity of the research findings. As a result, new guidelines and a template have been proposed to help standardize the process of conducting systematic MSR studies.
