European Starling feeds Hairy Woodpecker nestlings, challenging bird behavior norms.
European Starlings and Hairy Woodpeckers were seen sharing parental duties for a nest of woodpecker babies in Canada. The starling and female woodpecker both fed the nestlings, but the starling also cleaned up after them. This behavior is rare and may be due to competition for nesting spots or the absence of the male woodpecker.
