Ancient port city thrived despite sea level challenges in Black Sea.
The Black Sea level has changed over time, affecting ancient cities along its coast. During the Roman Age, the sea level was 3 meters lower than today. Despite this, the Roman city of Deultum thrived as a port on the west coast of Mandra Lake. This discrepancy between sea level and ancient navigation activities in the lake poses a challenge for further research on the sediments of the Holocene period.
