New seed mixtures revolutionize pesticide-free management of Nordic golf greens!
The researchers wanted to see if using a mix of red fescue and different types of bentgrass could help manage Nordic golf greens without pesticides. They compared two mixtures in two experiments and found that red fescue with creeping bentgrass produced high-quality greens with less disease than red fescue with colonial bentgrass. Red fescue with velvet bentgrass had the best turf quality but was more prone to disease. They also found that red fescue was not overpowered by bentgrass in any of the mixtures. More research is needed to figure out the best way to manage these mixed greens, especially when it comes to watering and controlling thatch.
