Methane's warming impact sways climate policies and meat-eating habits, unlocking massive emission cuts.
In this study, researchers looked into how methane affects climate change policies and diets. Using three economic models, they found that the type of measurement used for methane's impact affects the best ways to reduce emissions. Metrics that focus on short-term effects suggest more effective emission cuts. Switching to low-meat diets is better for reducing greenhouse gases than using carbon pricing methods when policies consider methane's long-term effects. By combining strong emission reduction actions with dietary changes, significant decreases in emissions from agriculture and global warming can be achieved.
