Energy storage technologies for grids have been studied to address environmental concerns and improve power system reliability. Different technologies like flywheels, pumped hydro, compressed air, molten salt, hydrogen, batteries, and capacitors are explored. The article reviews global deployments of these technologies and discusses barriers to their commercial use.
