Admissions Officers Secretly Manipulate Student Records, Undermining Fairness in University Admissions
The study analyzed how admissions officers comply or do not comply with the high school records policy. They found that officers show intentional compliance behaviors like accepting or trying to adjust to the policy, as well as unintentional compliance behaviors like formal or document-based compliance. Officers also exhibit unintentional non-compliance behaviors such as adding or subtracting information, and intentional non-compliance behaviors like delaying or attempting to change or cancel the policy. These behaviors are influenced by personal characteristics, organizational structure, and policy features. The study provides insights into the execution of the policy and suggests directions for successful implementation by admissions officers and institutions.
