Higher quality liquor production from sorghum ratoon crops with increased nitrogen.
Ratooning sorghum can give higher yields and better quality grain by growing a second crop from the original stubble. Adding more nitrogen fertilizer and planting more seeds can increase the yield of both main and ratoon crops. The ratoon crop has higher starch, protein, and tannin but lower fat content, making it better for making liquor. To get the best results, it's recommended to use 120 kg of nitrogen and 127,500 plants per hectare for the main crop, and add a little more nitrogen to the ratoon crop.
