Marine litter is a big problem in the Caribbean Small Island Developing States, especially in the Eastern part. Most of the scientific research on this issue is done by scientists from outside the region, which can make it harder to come up with effective solutions. The study suggests that having more local research could help create better policies to tackle marine litter in the Caribbean SIDS.
