India's Wildlife Laws Evolve to Protect Biodiversity and Local Communities
Wildlife and biodiversity conservation involves protecting species and habitats, both wild and cultivated. The Wild Life Protection Act in India from 1972 aimed to safeguard wildlife and habitats, focusing on reducing human impacts. However, it did not address biodiversity conservation. In 2002, India introduced a law specifically for protecting biodiversity. This shift also allowed for more local community involvement in wildlife conservation efforts. These changes show the evolving focus on wildlife and biodiversity conservation at both national and international levels.
