Parental practices shape toddlers' kindness and empathy development, study finds.
The study looked at how young children develop helpful and caring behaviors like sharing and helping others. They followed 112 toddlers and their parents and teachers over a year to see how these behaviors changed. They found that toddlers became more helpful as they got older, with instrumental helping increasing from 18 to 36 months, sharing increasing from 18 to 30 months, and empathic helping increasing from 24 to 36 months. The way parents and teachers interacted with the children influenced how likely they were to show these behaviors. This shows that socialization plays a big role in shaping how kids learn to be kind and helpful.
