Climate Change Threatens Ghana's Food Security: Crop Yields Plummet as Temperatures Rise
The study looked at how temperature, humidity, and rainfall affect the yields of maize, cassava, and yam in Ghana. They found that higher temperatures reduce the yield of all crops, while increased humidity lowers maize yield and more rainfall decreases cassava yield. The models created showed that these factors can predict around 63-74% of the variations in crop yields. The researchers suggest educating farmers on climate change effects, promoting modern farming methods, and providing high-yielding crop varieties to adapt to changing conditions.
