China's forest reserves show mixed success in conserving forests.
China's national forest reserves designated since 1990 have helped increase forest cover and reduce fragmentation. The core zones of reserves showed the most improvement in forest cohesion. However, some highly forested reserves still experienced declines in forest cover due to human activities. Overall, China's forest protection and regeneration programs have been moderately successful, but more effective management is needed to ensure greater protection of existing forests and reduce threats.
