Groundwater modeling in Kerala revolutionizes sustainable water management in India.
Groundwater flow in the Thuthapuzha sub-basin in Kerala, India was studied using Visual MODFLOW Flex 7.0. The goal was to understand how groundwater moves through the area to help manage water resources sustainably. The researchers created a model based on data from 37 wells and calibrated it using observed groundwater levels from 2000 to 2019. They found that the model accurately predicted groundwater levels, showing it can be used to study changes in groundwater levels in the region. This model could also be expanded to study groundwater flow in the entire Bharathapuzha river basin for better planning and management of water resources.
