Revolutionizing Sustainable Agriculture: Higher Yields and Reduced Weed Infestation with Row Intercropping
Growing peas and barley together in rows using strip-till technology can improve crop production and sustainability. In a three-year experiment, this method increased plant density, reduced weeds, and boosted productivity compared to traditional planting methods. Barley and peas yielded 8.5% and 10.2% more, respectively, than when planted alone. Peas also had a 38.9% higher yield compared to mixed-crop planting. The combined yield of barley and peas was higher than planting them separately. This approach shows promise for sustainable agriculture and warrants further research.
