Shrimp species at risk of overfishing due to low resilience
Shrimps like the soldier striped shrimp could be at risk of overfishing in the mid-North Atlantic. The females grow bigger and faster than males, but both have similar mortality rates. Males live slightly longer than females. When fishing efforts increase, the shrimp population declines quickly, showing they are not very mobile and are easily overexploited. The maximum sustainable catch is low, indicating that this shrimp species is not resilient and is highly vulnerable to overfishing.
