Furrow irrigation overhaul boosts crop yields, saves water for Ethiopian farmers
The study evaluated furrow irrigation at Wonji Shoa Sugar Estate in Ethiopia. They found that the current irrigation system had poor performance. By adjusting the inflow rate and cutoff time, the irrigation efficiency significantly improved. The changes led to better application efficacy and less deep percolation. However, distribution uniformity did not change much. The study concluded that altering the inflow rate and cutoff time can enhance furrow irrigation efficiency.
