Public participation key to improving NIMBY facility decision-making in China.
The study evaluates how involving the public in decision-making about NIMBY facilities can help reduce conflicts in China. Researchers analyzed 16 factors like public participation process and external support to improve the implementation effect. By using a combination of methods like DEMATEL and cloud model, they found that public participation in the Jiu Feng waste-to-energy plant project in Hangzhou was rated between "average" and "good". However, there is room for improvement in involving NGOs and considering public opinions in decision-making. The study provides a framework for government departments to enhance public participation in such projects.
