Gamification boosts motivation and enjoyment in psychological tasks, enhancing performance.
Gamification, which is using game elements in non-game situations, was studied to see how it affects a common psychological task called delay discounting. Two experiments were done, showing that adding game elements to the task made it more enjoyable for participants. Even though they enjoyed the gamified version more, their performance on the task was similar to the non-gamified version. This suggests that making tasks more fun with better graphics and gameplay doesn't necessarily change how well people do on the task.
