Dutch soils losing carbon stocks, threatening future sustainability.
The study looked at changes in soil health in the Netherlands from 1998 to 2018. They found that the amount of organic matter in the soil decreased significantly in certain areas, especially in the deeper soil layers. This decrease was more pronounced in mineral soils under cropland and grassland. The researchers also noted that the amount of carbon stored in the soil decreased during this time period. To improve future measurements, they suggested better accuracy in data on soil density.
