Residential burglary hotspots identified at 2.2 km scale for targeted policing.
The study analyzed residential burglary patterns in Columbus, Ohio over 9 years to find the best scale for studying these crimes. They used point pattern analysis and found that residential burglary tends to cluster at a scale of 2.2 km. The researchers also discovered that this clustering scale doesn't change much with different time periods. This information can help police define boundaries for place-based policing and determine search radii for hot spot policing.
