New 3D city model reduces urban data complexity and improves visualization.
The article discusses how 3D city models are used to represent urban data and presents a model of a neighborhood in Sofia using the CityGML 2.0 standard. The focus is on modeling buildings in LOD1, with a comparison of different building modeling approaches. The study found that modeling buildings with separate parts is more effective than as a single solid. Additionally, a method to reduce duplicate features in the terrain intersection curve was applied, resulting in a lower vertex count. The research also explores visualization options in platforms like ArcGIS Pro and Cesium Ion.
