Viewers Prefer Dynamic, Complex Shots for Emotional Impact in Portraits
The study analyzed how viewers prefer different emotional words depending on the size and placement of portrait shots in images. By creating four types of images with varying shot sizes and placements, the researchers found that viewers preferred dynamic and complex emotions with close-up shots, while static and simple emotions were favored with full shots. Close-up shots also evoked negative, uncomfortable, and heavy emotions, while full shots elicited positive and light emotions. Overall, the placement of shots in images influenced viewers' emotional word preferences, with close-up shots generally evoking more intense emotions compared to full shots.
