Social class no longer predicts career success for degree-holders.
The study looked at how where you come from and what you study in college can affect your job progression. They used data from a British study to see how social background influences career growth in the first ten years after starting work. They found that your parents' social class doesn't directly impact how successful you are in your job if you have a degree. Graduates in STEM and arts/humanities fields have similar career paths regardless of social class, but in social sciences, working-class graduates start with lower job status but catch up quickly. Overall, having a degree seems to level the playing field for job success, regardless of where you come from.
