Temperate Forests Unlock Secrets to Sustaining Vital Ecosystem Services
Plant traits are important for understanding how temperate forests work. A review of 48 studies found that traits like leaf shape and chemistry are linked to forest productivity. However, not enough research has been done on traits like root systems and leaf physiology. By studying these traits, we can better understand how forests function and provide important services like decomposition and wood production. This information can help us plan and manage forests more effectively in the future.
