Science Parks Boost Innovation in Portugal, Transforming Regional Development
Science and Technology Parks (STPs) have been helping regions develop and improve innovation. A study in Portugal looked at how STPs affect Regional Innovation Systems (RIS). They used data from 2007 to 2018 and found that the North, Center, and Lisbon regions have strong innovation, while the rest have moderate levels. However, all regions except Alentejo and Algarve showed improvement in innovation between 2016 and 2019. This improvement was linked to the positive influence of Policy Instruments on Regional Innovation inputs, which then led to better Regional Innovation Outputs. The study provides practical suggestions for regional stakeholders and is unique in its methodological approach for Portugal.
