The article explores how companies' sustainability reports can impact their sustainability performance. By analyzing UK firms' reports from 2014-2018, it was found that reports focusing on maintaining production within Earth's limits and living in harmony with nature lead to better sustainability performance. On the other hand, reports emphasizing compliance and a business-centered approach have a negative effect on sustainability performance. This suggests that companies should shift their approach in sustainability reporting from the business case to a more holistic view to improve their sustainability actions.
