Iraq's Rainfall Patterns Shift Dramatically, Impacting Daily Life and Agriculture.
The study compared rainfall patterns in Iraq during dry and wet seasons. They looked at seven weather stations and found that the dry season had more rainy days than the wet season. The total annual rain was higher in the dry season, except in two stations. Kirkuk had the highest daily rainfall in the dry season, while Mosul had the highest in the wet season. El Nino occurred in December and February during the dry season, while La Nina occurred the rest of the year. In the wet season, El Nino lasted for seven months and La Nina for two months. The Sudanese depression and cold anticyclones were important factors in rainfall patterns.
