Sawdust in Earthworm Substrate Boosts Growth and Reproduction Success
Researchers investigated how different organic wastes affect the growth and reproduction of earthworms. They used various combinations of potato, carrot pulp, vegetables, and sawdust in the earthworm substrate. The study found that adding sawdust to the manure bed provided the best conditions for earthworm growth and reproduction. Sawdust led to the highest number of cocoons produced by the earthworms compared to other waste types. This suggests that using sawdust in vermicomposting can be beneficial for earthworm populations.
