Organic farming equals conventional yields with lower environmental impact.
The study looked at how different farming methods affect potato yield and quality in a Baltic Sea climate. They compared organic farming with cover crops and manure to conventional farming with different levels of fertilizers. The results showed that while conventional systems had higher average yields, organic systems were more stable. Organic farming with cover crops and manure had similar yields to conventional farming with lower nitrogen levels. Also, organic systems had higher starch content in the tubers compared to conventional systems. Overall, using cover crops and manure in organic farming can give similar results to conventional farming with less nitrogen.
