Intercropping maize with legumes boosts productivity and soil fertility in India.
Intercropping maize with soybean or green gram in specific row ratios can increase crop diversity, soil fertility, and farmer livelihood in the North-eastern Hill Region of India. The study found that intercropping maize with soybean in a 1:2 row ratio resulted in the highest maize equivalent yield, system productivity, and production efficiency. On the other hand, intercropping maize with green gram in a 1:2 ratio showed higher land equivalent ratio and land equivalent co-efficient. Overall, intercropping maize with soybean or green gram can be beneficial for farmers in this region.
