Toxic pollution threatens Baiyangdian lake, endangering millions of lives.
The study looked at pollution in rivers flowing into Baiyangdian Lake after the Xiongan New Area was established. They found that eutrophication pollution (from excess nutrients) was worse than heavy metal pollution. Eutrophication was highest in summer and autumn, while heavy metals had higher levels near towns. The researchers identified sources of pollution like sewage, traffic, agriculture, and sediment. Current treatments are not fully solving the pollution problem, so understanding when and where pollution is worst is important for developing better solutions.
