Domestic coking coal reserves could reduce India's steel production costs
The scientists studied how to clean low-quality coal from India so it can be used to make iron and steel without relying on imported coal. They focused on a specific type of coal with a lot of ash that's hard to clean. By crushing the coal and testing how it separates when washed, they found a way to clean it up to 17.5% ash. The cleaned coal could be mixed with other types for industrial use in making metals.
