China's Forest Certification Program Fails to Boost Restoration, Hurts Southern Forests
This study looked into how a forest management system called CFM affects the restoration of forests, using data from China's EWF certification program. By analyzing data from various provinces over several years, they found that having more EWF-certified areas seems to help with forest restoration at first glance. However, when considering other factors, the increase in certified areas doesn't have a big impact on making forests healthier. In fact, in some areas, it might even slow down the restoration process, especially in the southern collective forest zones.
