Electric lamps have seen significant advancements in the past 25 years, particularly in discharge sources. Despite incandescent lamps having lower efficiency, they remain important. A new method called electroluminescence for converting electricity into light has been developed but hasn't met expectations. Surprisingly, improvements continue in conventional discharge sources, with new ideas leading to substantial progress. The paper discusses these key developments and trends in electric lamps.
