Drought-stricken California farmers can grow more with less water
The California Department of Water Resources is looking into ways to use water more efficiently in agriculture. They want to figure out how to grow crops with less water through a method called deficit irrigation. This means giving plants less water at certain times to save money while still producing crops. Additionally, they are studying the benefits of saving water in farms beyond just using less water. These benefits include saving energy, reducing water pollution, and lowering the number of disease-carrying mosquitos. The projects are part of a bigger effort to research ways to conserve water in farm practices.
