Real-time electronic data interchange reduces material delays in purchasing process
Electronic data interchange (EDI) is a way for businesses to send standard forms directly between computers, without needing to print and distribute them. Using EDI in purchasing can speed up the process and reduce delays in getting materials. A research project looked at how to implement EDI in purchasing, funded by a group of purchasing professionals and a university. The researchers created a framework to help managers see patterns in how to set up and use EDI effectively in their own companies.
