Regional integration boosts global industry liberalization, except for customs unions.
The article looks at how regional economic agreements can lead to more global trade in a specific industry. It finds that when countries in a region work together economically, it can encourage more trade worldwide. However, this might not be the case if the countries in the region have a customs union without also working together politically. The study was done by researchers at Seikei University in Japan and was published in December 1994.
